Description
What a stonewash finish actually does.
Stonewashing tumbles the blade with abrasive media, which dulls the surface to a soft grey and hides the small scratches a working knife collects. A polished blade shows every mark; a stonewashed one keeps looking the same for years.
The blade is D2, high-carbon and high-chromium, chosen for wear resistance. The handle is G10, which does not absorb water and stays grippy.
Care: dry and oil the blade; the finish is forgiving but D2 still spots if stored wet.
Curious how D2 steel compares with S30V and M390 on edge holding, rust resistance and sharpening effort? Our comparison of D2, S30V and M390 explains the trade-offs in plain terms.
